Yee I-Lann (born 1971 in Sabah, Malaysia) lives and works in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is widely considered to be among Malaysia’s leading contemporary artists. The exhibition will focus on three recent series one of which is Picturing Power (2013, shown above), eight digital collages referencing the history of photography as it relates to the development of colonialism in Southeast Asia and its contemporary legacy.

Thomas Allen Harris’ extraordinary documentary, Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People,
is a unique examination of the way black photographers—and their
subjects—have used the camera as a tool for social change from the time
photography was invented to the present. Harris' documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to sold out audiences with select screenings in NYC later this month - check the Chimpanzee Productions website for details.

Sheila Pree Bright's Suburbia Series on View in Former Plantation
If the unconventional venue for this show isn't shocking enough, you'll be amazed (but maybe not surprised) by the comments that Bright received during a review of her work from respected curators, consultants and photo editors at the 2006 Santa Fe Prize Photography Awards.

The Nigerian photographer known for his documentary work on traditional African hairstyles, died last week at the age of 83. UK newspaper, The Guardian, offers a great slideshow of Ojeikere's important work.
